      The USAD Global Finals lasted for more than five months and ended recently, with hundreds of teams competing in China. Among them, six students from "Royal Mile Global Elite Academy" (For short: "Royal Mile") of Shenzhen Merchiston International Foreign Students" School (For short: "MIS") participated in the USAD competition for the first time and made outstanding achievements in the competition.       As the most authoritative platform for high school students" comprehensive academic team competition in the United States, the USAD competition is comparable to the "Oscar" of academia, known as the intellectual challenge to the world"s top universities. The competition consists of ten subjects, including seven objective subjects: art, economics, literature, mathematics, music, science, and social science; There are also three subjective subjects: speech, interview, and writing. Each year, the competition has a specific theme, and all preparation study is conducted around the theme.

      It is worth mentioning that since the competition team needs to gather six to nine students of equal level, many high school students from international schools need to join forces across the school and go to Hainan together to participate in the competition and select the six best performance to participate in the evaluation. The Royal Mile team, aged 13 to 14, did so well with no backup players, six against nine, and an online entry. As the team leader of this competition, she entered the top 10% in the first competition and won the individual rookie award.

      Olivia said that she was best prepared for the interview and speech among all the parts of the competition. The title of the speech was "If I Can Make a Difference in the World." When writing the speech, she consulted the school"s foreign teachers. Regarding the interview, the judges asked, "What are your plans for your future?" Olivia, who has always been interested in architecture, replied, I want to promote the culture of ancient Chinese architecture worldwide in the future.

      "The math and economics knowledge in the USAD competition is all the content I have learned in class. I felt relaxed during the whole exam, even the shock of dimensionality reduction." Deo, who got the highest score in South China, followed the route of international education from childhood. He studied in famous international schools in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and other places and played golf well. After passing the examination last year, I entered the Royal Mile Scholarship Programm of MIS.

      "The Royal Mile was challenging and fun, and the teachers were able to harness my full learning potential." Ken, a team member who chose the most severe difficulty mode in USAD, said that the competition requires high academic proficiency—the 18th and 19th centuries happened to be the period of rapid development of basic disciplines such as physics and chemistry. In the competition, rare questions such as the development history of science and the founder of a scientific principle will be asked, requiring students to master the basic knowledge of interdisciplinary and multi-fields.

      擅長(zhǎng)足球、籃球和賽艇……Olivia因?yàn)檫\(yùn)動(dòng)細(xì)胞發(fā)達(dá),學(xué)習(xí)優(yōu)異、性格活潑被同學(xué)戲稱為“曼校谷愛凌”。作為本次大賽的團(tuán)隊(duì)組長(zhǎng),她首次參賽成績(jī)便進(jìn)入全國(guó)前10%,獲得了大賽個(gè)人新秀獎(jiǎng)。

      Olivia表示,在所有比賽環(huán)節(jié)中,她準(zhǔn)備最充分的是面試和演講,演講題目選擇了“如果能對(duì)世界進(jìn)行改變”,撰寫演講稿時(shí),特意請(qǐng)教了學(xué)校外籍老師。到了面試環(huán)節(jié),評(píng)審的問題是“你對(duì)自己的未來(lái)有什么規(guī)劃”。Olivia一直對(duì)建筑很感興趣,她回答道,我未來(lái)要在全世界將中國(guó)古建筑的文化發(fā)揚(yáng)光大。

      “USAD比賽中有關(guān)數(shù)學(xué)和經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)方面的知識(shí),都是平時(shí)上課時(shí)曾學(xué)過(guò)的內(nèi)容,整場(chǎng)考試感覺很輕松,甚至是覺得是在降維打擊。”獲得華南區(qū)最高分的Deo,則從小便走國(guó)際教育路線,曾輾轉(zhuǎn)在香港、深圳等地的知名國(guó)際學(xué)校就讀,擅長(zhǎng)打高爾夫球。去年通過(guò)考核后,順利進(jìn)入曼徹斯通城堡學(xué)校的“皇家一英里”獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金項(xiàng)目。

      “皇家一英里的學(xué)習(xí)充滿了挑戰(zhàn)性和趣味性,老師們能充分調(diào)動(dòng)自己的學(xué)習(xí)潛力。”在此次比賽中選擇了USAD難度最高模式的團(tuán)隊(duì)成員Ken提到,此次比賽對(duì)參賽人員的學(xué)術(shù)水平要求很高。恰好18、19世紀(jì)是物理、化學(xué)等基礎(chǔ)學(xué)科飛速發(fā)展的時(shí)期,比賽中會(huì)問到科學(xué)的發(fā)展歷程、某科學(xué)原理的創(chuàng)始人是誰(shuí)之類比較生僻的問題,需要學(xué)生掌握跨學(xué)科、多領(lǐng)域的基礎(chǔ)知識(shí)。
