Mathematics

數學是人類對事物的抽象結構與模式進行嚴格描述、推導的一種通用手段，可以應用於現實世界的任何問題，所有的數學對象本質上都是人為定義的。在人類歷史發展和社會生活中，數學發揮著不可替代的作用，同時也是學習和研究現代科學技術必不可少的基本工具。

Mathematics is a means for humans to describe and derive abstract structures and patterns of the world. It can be applied to any problem in the real world. Therefore, Mathematics plays an irreplaceable role in the development of human history and social life, and is also an essential tool for modern science and technology.

為培養學生的數感，激發學生對數學的興趣，增強學生的數學計算能力，華美外國語學校香港部特在2022-23秋季學期第15週開設數學週活動——“數學樂趣多”，為學生們準備了“火柴棍大挑戰”、“數獨大挑戰”和“勇闖24”等有趣益智的數學比賽，學生們熱情積極參與，收穫滿滿！

In order to cultivate students" numbersense, stimulate students" interest in mathematics, and enhance students" ability of mathematical calculation, the Hong Kong Department of Huamai Foreign Language School held a Math week in the 15thweek of the autumn semester of 2022-23 -- "Math. is fun". Teachers prepared interesting and excitingcompetitions about Math. such as "Matchstick Challenge", "Sudoku Challenge" and "Brave 24" for students.The students participated enthusiastically and learnt a lot!

數學科並不僅僅是一種工具學科，同時還是一種邏輯思維的訓練科目。不同的數學家和哲學家對數學的確切範圍和定義有不同的看法。數學定義的三個主要類型被稱為邏輯學家，直覺主義者和形式主義者，每個都反映了不同的哲學思想學派。我們希望激發學生對於數學的興趣，讓有天賦的學生在未來可以探索數學的無窮奧妙，為數學的發展作出自己的貢獻。

Mathematics is not only a tool, but alsoa means to develops logical thinking.Different mathematicians and philosophers have different ideas about the exact scope and definition of mathematics. The three main types of mathematical definitions are called logicians, intuitionists, and formalists, each reflecting a different school of philosophical thought. We hope to stimulate students" interest in mathematics, so that students can explore the infinite secrets of mathematics in the future and make their own contribution to the development of mathematics.
